Perfection Empty
PostSubject: Perfection   Perfection EmptySat Aug 22, 2015 10:07 pm

What is perfection?
What is holiness?
Is perfection when one becomes immune to any temptation - or - the ability to resist by the power of the Holy Spirit?

Philippians 3
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.
18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

What does Paul mean in verses 20-21?

Thought it was important.

Anyway, here's my take.
The last two verses say
a. Our citizenship is in heaven - is, not will be or might be. The seal of the Holy Spirit is not erasable, in fact, it's a guarantee according to Paul in Ephesians 1. That's before believers attained perfection. The question is what are we to do with such a citizenship on earth or if we are in fact a citizen.
b. We eagerly await a Savior from there: if we were to attain perfection first it would be wrong to be eager because His slowness is His patience as someone argues. However, Paul taught that while admitting that he's not yet perfect (cf Meyer's NT comment on Philippians 3:12).
c. He will transform our lowly body. What does this mean?

Isn't that just talking about the same thing as 1Cor 15:42-44?

There was a discussion last Sabbath whether perfection is when one becomes immune to any temptation - or - the ability to resist by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My thought is the latter - and some frown upon. Thus led to this post so I could be refuted by the scripture.

Regarding 1Corithians 15:42-44 and the whole chapter for that matter.
A spiritual body is required because the natural body is perishable.
My question is, would Adam's natural body be perishable if
a. He didn't sin?
b. He ate from the tree of life?
So my understanding is, the natural body denotes a sinful body and the spiritual body a sinless one. As long as we are in this natural body we are susceptible to temptations and have to lean on the Holy Spirit and the word of God to fight against.

I thought it was important.

Analogy:
Believers are like people suffering from allergy struggling with runny nose and itchy eyes. Everyone stumbles to allergy. It's just a matter of when and where.
Not that they are weak but because they over react to certain substances.
Not that all substances are bad but because some are odd amongst genetically modified ones which the world has made people accustom to.
The only treatment is allergy medication and should be taken before the symptom starts. Treatment in the middle of the season is not as effective but frequent rinsing of the nose with water helps.
Until the body is renewed and GMO products are removed.
