Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptySun Jun 12, 2016 5:39 pm

1. Paul, an apostle - sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead -
Note:
a. Paul observed Sabbath and various biblical feasts in the Book of Acts with both Jews and gentile believers - see Acts 13:13-15, 13:42-44, 16:11-13, 17:1-4, 18:1-4, 18:21(missing "I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem" in NIV), 20:6, 20:16, 27:9.
b. Jesus Christ is the Word of God (cf John 1:1) who spoke to Adam, Eve, Cain, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob (Israel), Moses and the Israelites. He is the one who spoke to the Israelites the ten commandments and to Moses various laws. He is the one who spoke to all the prophets who wrote his words down in the Bible.
He is also the one who spoke the world into existence see Genesis 1, Psalms 33:6.
His word is eternal - see Psalms 119:89.
He is the Word of life - see 1 John 1.
He is the same yesterday and today and forever- see Hebrews 13:8.
He says "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law of the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law, until everything is accomplished" - see Matthew 5:17-18.
c. God the Father
i. He does not change - see Psalm 33:11, 102:25-27, Malachi 3:6, James 1:17.
ii. He is faithful. He keeps His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands - see Deuteronomy 7:9.
iii. He so loved the world He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
d. God raise His Son, the Word of God,  from the dead.

2. and all the brothers and sisters with me, to the churches in Galatia:
Note:
a. the brothers most likely included Silas and Timothy - see Acts 15:22-27, 16:1-4.
b. the letter was written likely after the 3rd visit (Acts 18:23) because he could have rebuked them face to face in any one of his visits if the issues happened earlier.
c. he visited the region of Galatia 3 times (Acts 13-14, 16, 18:23).
d. he established the churches during his 1st visit (Acts 14:23).
e. the known churches in the region of Galatia:
i. Pisidian Antioch - Acts 13:13-52
ii. Iconium - Acts 14:1-5
iii. Lystra - Acts 14:8-19
iv. Derbe - Acts 14:20-21
f. he preached to both Jews and gentiles in those churches.
g. the gospel to the Galatians was recorded in Acts 13:16-52 in which I believe the essence is:
"I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses."
h. the word "fulfill" appeared 2 times in Acts 13 which I believe is related to Matthew 5:17.

3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
Note:
It's from the old testament.
God (the Father) spoke (His Word) to Moses to teach Aaron and his sons on how to bless His people in Numbers 6:24-26 -
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”

4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father
Note:
a. Verses from Paul's letter regarding "who gave himself"
Romans 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification.
1 Corinthians 15:3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
1 Timothy 2:6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
Titus 2:14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness (some translations: lawlessness) and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

b. Verses from the gospel regarding "who gave himself"
Matthew 20:28 and Mark 10:45 the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Matthew 26:28 This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

c. present evil age:
Ephesians 5:16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Philippians 2:15 so that you may become blameless and pure, "children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation." Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.

d. the will of our God in the context of Galatians 1:4:
Ezekiel 18:23 (also 18:32 & 33:11) "Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked," declares the Lord GOD, "rather than that he should turn from his ways and live?"
John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
1 Timothy 2:3-4 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Note:
To understand the meaning of "to whom be glory" I resort to the Messiah's prayer in John 17:
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.
5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
6 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.
7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.
8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.
10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—
23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.

I emphasized verse 10 where it reads "glory has come to me through them". The "them" there refers to verses 6 to 9. The same people He promised and He prayed for protection, joy, the truth and the continuation of revelation, sanctification, glory, unity and ultimately, love of God the Father.
What does it mean to say "to whom be glory forever and ever"?

Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptyMon Jun 20, 2016 3:47 pm

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel
Note:
A. The gospel preached to the Galatians on record is, as previously mentioned, in Acts 13:16-52.
a. it took place at a synagogue on a Sabbath. Acts 13:14
b. it was after the reading of the Law and Prophets that Paul was invited to speak. Acts 13:15
c. Paul spoke to both Jews and gentiles at the synagogue. Acts 13:16
d. Nothing was said about the replacement of the Law of Moses.
B. Acts 13:39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses
a. Sin is transgression of the Law - see 1 John 3:4.
b. Sin is not charged against anyone's account where there is no law - see Romans 5:13.
c. The OT does not teach that justification could be obtain under the Law of Moses.
C. Different gospel:
a. It would have to be different from what Paul preached on record.
b. It would have to be different from the gospel of Matthew, of Mark, of Luke and of John .

PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptyMon Jun 20, 2016 4:31 pm

7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
Note:
A. Is upholding the Law perverting the gospel of Christ?
The Messiah started preaching the gospel in Matthew 4:23. Yet, as aforementioned, He said in Matthew 5:17 that He came not to abolish the Law. Thus the gospel does not render the Law obsolete.
B. Matthew 9:13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
Was the Messiah's teaching contradictory to OT in which taught various sacrifices?
Not so because in the OT:
a. 1 Sam 15:22 But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
b. Hosea 6:6 For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.
C. Preview: Is circumcision a form of sacrifice?

Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptyMon Jun 20, 2016 4:53 pm

8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!
Note:
Would Paul's gospel be different from the Messiah's and the prophets in the OT (from which Paul, the Messiah as well as the gospels quoted numerous times)?
The Messiah is from heaven. He said "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me." cf John 6:38
Angel means messenger, not cupids with wings.
The Messiah preached: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." cf Matthew 4:17.
He preached to the Jews.
Repent or repentance examples taught in old testament:
Isaiah 30:15 This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it."
This was spoken to those in Isaiah 30:9-11 For these are rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction. They say to the seers, “See no more visions!” and to the prophets, “Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions. Leave this way, get off this path, and stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel!”. The same people in Isaiah 29:13 The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.
In the context God spoke through Isaiah to the Israelites to leave the traditions of man and return to the instructions of God which resembled the teachings of the Messiah.
Jeremiah 4:1-4 "If you will return, O Israel, return to me." declares the Lord. "If you put your detestable idols out of my sight and no longer go astray, and if in a truthful, just and righteous way you swear, 'As surely as the Lord lives,' then the nations will be blessed by him and in him they will glory." This is what the Lord says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: "Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done - burn with no one to quench it...."
This in context was to the Israelites who have sinned against God and have not obeyed Him. cf Jeremiah 3:25 and if they still would not listen, more disasters would follow until they are destroyed, cf Jeremiah 3:6 to 8:3, also resembled the teaching of the Messiah. See also Jeremiah 31 regarding the new covenant which the Messiah fulfilled.
Ezekiel 14:6 Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!'
He was speaking to those separate himself from Him, set up idols in their hearts and put stumbling block before themselves and have become useless and unfaithful,. cf Ezekiel 14-16. See also Ezekiel 36 the promise of the Holy Spirit. Again, the former was taught and the latter promised by the Messiah.
Deuteronomy 30:2  ..and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where He scattered you.
This was also taught by the Messiah and understood by the disciples. cf matthew 17:11, Acts 1:6 and 3:21.

Kingdom of heaven:
Although God promised Abraham to be the father of all nations and kings will come from him, I believe Exodus 19:5-6 is the first time God mentioned a Godly kingdom:
Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.
Israel did not obey Him fully and failed.
Although God renewed His promise to David in 2 Samuel 7:12-16, Israel continue to fail to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.
God promised yet again in Isaiah 2:2-4 In the last days the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many people will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in His paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
Isaiah 9:1-7 promised the Prince of Peace who will reign on David's throne and over His kingdom forever.
Isaiah 11 told us from whom this Prince come, how He would judge and what the kingdom would be like.
Isaiah 25:8 told us God will swallow up death forever and will remove the disgrace of His people.
Isaiah 32:1-8 told us the King will reign in righteousness and his rulers will rule with justice, that the fool who practices ungodliness and spreads error concerning the Lord will be exposed and that the truly noble men will stand.
Isaiah 40:3-11 foretold us this good news which the gospel according to Matthew and Paul's letter to the Romans quoted to authenticate the Messiah.
Isaiah 42:1-9 foretold this Prince is also a servant and a light for the gentiles which Matthew and Luke quoted .
Isaiah 49:5-7 foretold the Messiah will be despised but salvation will be brought to the gentiles.
Isaiah 50:5-9 foretold the Messiah will suffer although He's sinless.
Isaiah 52:13 told us this servant will be lifted up and highly exalted which verified by Paul in the letter to the Philippians.
Isaiah 53 again foretold His sufferings for the sinners.
Isaiah 55 foretold He's the living water which He quoted in John 7 to verify He's the Messiah.
Isaiah 56 told us the salvation for the gentiles and the significance of the Sabbath.
Isaiah 58 told us what is considered right in His eyes.
Isaiah 61:1 was quoted by the Messiah to indicate that He's the One.
Isaiah 66 promised the new heavens and the new earth and told us who will be accepted and who will be rejected.

Again, would Paul's gospel contradict to the Messiah's and the prophets?

Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptyFri Jul 01, 2016 8:59 pm

9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Note:
The Messiah taught and recorded in the Gospel according to Luke, written primarily for the gentiles (see Luke 1:1-4): "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. cf Luke 24:46-47
It implied that repentance and forgiveness of sins are to be preached to both Jews and gentiles.

Peter's understanding of the gospel is: to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him received forgiveness of sins through His name. cf Acts 10:42-43

Cornelius was among the first gentiles received the gospel.
a. He was a righteous and God fearing man who was respected by all the Jewish people. cf Acts 10:22
b. He prayed and helped the poor often. cf Acts 10:31
c. He was accepted by God because he feared God and did what is right. cf Acts 10:35
d. He did not convert to Judaism otherwise he would not be considered a gentile and unclean. cf Acts 10:28

Would Peter's gospel be different from Paul's?

Did Paul contradict to James' teaching (James 3:9-10)?

Either Paul was a false prophet or he's commanded by God just as Ezekiel was to condemn false prophets of his generation. cf Ezekiel 13
According to Ezekiel 13, false prophets would have the following characteristics:
a. prophecy out of their own imagination and lie i.e. could not be verified with the Scriptures.
b. lead God's people astray by preaching peace when there is no peace.
c. cover breaks in the wall with whitewash so that it would not stand on the day of the Lord.
d. profane God among His people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread.
e. lie to His people who listen to lies.
f. kill those who should not have died and spare those who should not live.
g. dishearten the righteous with lies when God has brought them no grief.
h. encourage the wicked not to turn their evil ways and so save their lives.
They are the ones to be condemned.

Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptySat Jul 02, 2016 5:52 pm

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Note:
Elsewhere Paul repeated: ....we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. cf 1 Thessalonians 2:4
Peter and the other apostles: We must obey God rather than men. cf Acts 5:29
Speaking against those oppose Him, the Messiah says: How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God? cf John 5:44
In the context the Messiah says:
a. the Scriptures testify about Him.
b. if one believes Moses, one would believe Him because he wrote about Him.
Would speaking against the Law of God spoken by the Word given through Moses win the approval of God?

11. I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.
Note:
Per the Messiah:
a. Watch out that no one deceives you. cf Matthew 24:4
b. Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Matthew 24:11
c. Vain worship is to disregard the commandment of God and to follow human traditions. cf Matthew 15:9 & Mark 7:8
d. The greatest commandment is: love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind cf Matthew 22:37-38. He quoted from Deuteronomy 6:5 which follows by: These commandments that I gave you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. This resonates with the psalmist: Blessed is he who delights in the law of the Lord and on His law he meditates day and night. cf Psalm 1:2 and the whole Psalms 119.
Question is, does the gospel nullify the law? Per Paul the answer is no. cf Romans 3:31
So what is a man made gospel?

Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptySat Jul 16, 2016 1:23 pm

12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
Note:
I simply want to deal with the law here because the issue was the law in the letter to the Galatians.
Paul was a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia. Before meeting the Messiah near Damascus, he was a Pharisee thoroughly trained in the law of his fathers under Gamaliel and he thought persecuting the followers of the Messiah was doing the works of God. cf Acts 22:3-21
In Acts 22:3, he mentioned "the law of our fathers". Was he referring to the law given through Moses by the Word of God i.e. the Messiah?
2 verses down in Galatians 1:14, Paul said he was extremely zealous for the traditions of his fathers.
In Philippians 3:5, he said he's a Pharisee in regard to the law. Is there such thing in the law of God?
In Matthew 15:1-11 and 23:16-18, the Messiah pointed out the hypocrisy of the law added by the Pharisees which have nothing to do with the law of God.
Matthew 12:1-2 At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath."
The Torah does not teach it's unlawful to do so. It was teaching by man.
Again in Matthew 23:1-4 regarding the heavy loads, was the Messiah referring to the law of God?
In Deuteronomy 30:11-14, He says: "Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, 'who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?' Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, 'who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?' No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it."
i. Paul quoted this passage in Romans 10:6-10 when he spoke of justification through faith, after he stated that by faith we uphold the law in Romans 3:31.
ii. In Deuteronomy 30:11 the word "too difficult" in Hebrew is H6381 which means beyond one's power, difficult to do and/or difficult to understand. Therefore, "not too difficult" means within one's power, not difficult to do nor understand.
My understanding is, the law of God is not beyond one's power to comply whereas the law added by men is and Paul has come to understand it.
Remember the Messiah commands His disciples to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins in Luke 24:47.
And remember everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. cf 1 John 3:4

Galatians verse by verse Empty
PostSubject: Re: Galatians verse by verse   Galatians verse by verse EmptySat Jul 16, 2016 3:56 pm

13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.
Note:
Way of life in Judaism is written Torah plus oral teachings plus customs and traditions.
Examples of oral teachings, customs and traditions which contradict the teachings of the Torah, in addition to Matthew 12, 15 and 23 previously mentioned:
Matthew 5:17-48  where the Messiah corrected the misunderstanding of the law.

Examples of such which do not contradict to the teachings of the Torah:
a. Going to synagogue on the Sabbath
Luke 4:16 He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom...
Acts 17:2 As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures...
b. Ceremonial cleansing
John 2:6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
John 5:2-7 the Bethesda Pool.
Baptism in various verses.
c. Feasts observed but not in the law
John 5:1 is believed to be Purim which commemorates the deliverance of the Jews recorded in Esther.
John 10:22 feast of dedication.
d. Unknown teachings observed
2 Thessalonians 2:15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

Church of God: those persecuted by Paul were, mostly if not all, Jewish believers. cf Acts 7 & 9.

Reasons for persecution: Christians do not follow the way of Judaism.

Does Paul teach or preach against the Law after he came to know Christ? Paul said in Acts 24:14-15 ...I admit that I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that agrees with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, and I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
Here shown the faith does not replace the Law and the Prophets.
About the faith in Christ Jesus, when Paul preached to Felix who was a gentile, he discoursed on righteousness, self control and the judgment to come. cf Acts 24:24-25
Looks like it's essential for Christians to have self control.

14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
Note:
Fathers here does not mean biological or step fathers but spiritual fathers. The reason the Messiah teaches in Matthew 23:9 that we should not call anyone on earth 'father' for we have one Father who is in heaven. For the same token, in Matthew 23:10, we should not call anyone 'teacher' spiritually for we have one Teacher, the Christ.
Paul was extremely zealous for the tradition of his fathers which he thought was the truth.

15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased...
Note:
Set apart from birth: Paul believes God chose His people in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. cf Ephesians 1:4
However, many are called but few are chosen. cf Matthew 22:1:14
Those are called must put on their wedding clothes. cf Matthew 22:12
I believe wedding clothes means to be perfect (Matthew 5:48), be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27), be spotless (2 Peter 3:14).
The reason Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 especially verse 27: no, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
By His grace: What he said in Galatians 1:3-4 and other letters such as Ephesians 1:5-8.

Paul's view on sin, law and grace based on his letter to the Romans:
Sin: Romans 7:22-23 For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
Here we see again, as in 1 John 3:4, sin is against God's law.
We also see there are God's law against the law of sin. cf Romans 7:25
Law and grace: Romans 6 especially verses 14-15 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man.
Note:
Acts 9:3-5 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied.
Acts 9:15-16 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”
Acts 13:1-3 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.
Note:
The journey to Arabia was not mentioned in Acts 9.
One of the reasons of the doubt whether this letter was genuine.
It might have happened between Acts 9:19 and 9:20 but who knows.
Why going to Arabia?
There are many theories on the internet and I would go with the ones which say he went to Mount Sinai (Mount Horeb) like Moses and Elijah did, for the reason that he mentioned such in Galatians 4:25.

18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.
Note:
Acts 9:26-28 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples. but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey has seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. so Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.

19 I saw none of the other apostles - only James, the Lord's brother.
Note:
It seems contradicting to Acts 9:26-28.

20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.
Note:
That he get acquainted with the apostles rather than consulting them regarding the gospel he preached.
Acts 9:26-28 indicated that he spent the time preaching and debating rather than consulting with the apostles while in Jerusalem.

21 Later I went to Syria and Cilicia.
Note:
Tarsus, where Paul was born, was the capital of Cilicia.
cf Acts 22:3 I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. Under Gamaliel I was thoroughly trained in the law of our fathers and was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.
cf Acts 9:29-30 He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him. When the brothers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
It was the Messiah's instruction to leave too. cf Acts 22:17-18 When I returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance and saw the Lord speaking, 'Quick!' he said to me. 'Leave Jerusalem immediately, because they will not accept your testimony about me.'

Caesarea at that time was incorporated into the province of Syria.

22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.
Note:
He had not preached in Judea other than Jerusalem. He was chosen to preach to the gentiles cf Acts Act 9:15
Also cf Acts 22:21 Then the Lord said to me, 'Go, I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'

23 They only heard the report: 'The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.' And they praise God because of me.
Note:
This is why it was not a problem for the church in Antioch to send Paul with Barnabas to bring the gift to the brothers living in Judea because the churches of Judea had already known of Paul's conversion. cf Acts 11:27-30

2:1 Fourteen years later I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also.
Note:
Many commentators related this to the Council at Jerusalem regarding circumcision for the gentiles (cf Acts 15) but Adam Clarke and some also considered the possibility of the gift Paul and Barnabas brought for the poor earlier (cf Acts 11:27-30).
I believe it's the latter. Will explain in following verses.

Titus was never mentioned in Acts.
Titus in Acts 18:7 was a different person.

2:2 I went in response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I preach among the gentiles. But I did this privately to those who seemed to be leaders, for fear that I was running or had run my race in vain.
Note:
Revelation:
The sharp dispute regarding circumcision for the gentiles in Acts 15:1-2 was, as it said, a dispute, not a revelation.
The prediction of a famine by Agabus in Acts 11:27-28, which actually took place some time later, was.
The council in Jerusalem regarding circumcision for the gentiles in Acts 15 was a public meeting, not a private one.
The visit in Acts 11:30 was for famine relief. There was no mentioning of a discussion on either the gospel Paul preached or circumcision which made sense when the discussion was held in private.
The visit matches what Paul said at the trial before Felix cf Acts 24:17.
For fear: the fear of the leaders that Paul's running in vain. Paul had to discourse on his gospel in their presence.
