And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
The word "understanding" is not in Deuteronomy 6:5 and not what the Messiah taught in Mark 12:30 nor Matthew 22:37 nor Luke 10:27
"Strength" and "mind" might have the same meaning as "might" but "understanding" is not strength, nor mind, nor might.
Understanding is a gift.
Two things come to mind:
a. The more one has and uses, the more will be given, the more will be demanded cf Matthew 13:12 and 25:28, Mark 4:25, Luke 8:18, 12:48 and 19:26, John 15:2.
b. Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving. Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed cf Isaiah 6:9-10, Matthew 13:14-15, Mark 4:12, John 12:40.
