| Subject: Pharisees, traditions, law of Moses, Ah Li's question Sat Dec 26, 2009 11:06 am | |
| I feel obliged to put my response to Ah Li's question in writing. By remembering Sabbaths and various laws of Moses does it make one Pharisee?
My questions: 1. Pharisees - did they get their reputation by following laws of Moses? 2. Moses - did he invent the Law?
My answer: 1. Pharisees Matthew 15:3 God's commands were broken for the sake of traditions. Matthew 15:9 Their teachings are rules taught by men. 2. Moses laws John 1:17 The law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Romans 6:15 Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! Romans 7:7 Men would not have known what sin was except through the law.
My new questions: God's command, Moses laws, man made traditions - which one comes first? Which practices in institutional churches are taught in the Bible and are not man made traditions?
Sabbath: Jesus taught it's lawful to do good on the Sabbath. He observed Sabbath. To say Jesus made the Sabbath obsolete was totally fable because His followers observed Sabbath (e.g. Luke 23:56). Paul observed Sabbath. Man has changed Sabbath to Sunday and called it Christian's Sabbath since the last book of the New Testament was written. Man has kept the Christian's Sabbath since then until recent centuries and it has become a 3 hour max deal for Sunday "school" and "service". What's next? | |
