Sabbath from the perspective of the books of Acts Empty
PostSubject: Sabbath from the perspective of the books of Acts   Sabbath from the perspective of the books of Acts EmptyThu Feb 11, 2016 11:47 am

One mentioned Acts 15:21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath, in answer to the question of whether the law of Moses is applicable to gentile believers.

If one reads on in the next few chapters, one shall see Sabbath is always when and synagogue is mostly where, Jews and/or God fearing gentiles met together to read and discuss His word and to pray.

Have one learnt the example of the Berean Jews in chapter 17?
They received the message in the synagogue, possibly on Sabbath - and - they examined the scripture everyday whether the message the received was true. And we have no time during the week? And we are so tired on the Sabbath to read?

Note: If one checks the definition of synagogue, it's an assembly of believers for the purpose of religious worship and instruction.

Does it mean one has to spend the whole day reading the Bible and in discussion?
Does it mean one cannot take a walk in the park on Sabbath?
Does it mean one cannot just relax and care about each other?
No, we cannot do one without the others.

What did we come up with less than 2 months ago?
2:30pm to 6:30pm were to study the Bible, to discuss and to sing praise - and have snack breaks in between.
Before and after were to chill and care about each other.

What did we do soon after that?
We felt discussions or debates on most topics are not edifying.
We felt we should have more time sharing - that's cutting into the 4 hour meeting, not outside of the meeting.
We felt we should not do this or that when we don't have the heart to do so.
We the Babylonians have to be divided by confusing languages.

Funny. You mean - we babylonians don't need confusing languages to divide us.

We agreed to that schedule way back on Aug 1 - https://www.evernote.com/l/AFPop24540FJOLVhsBOKQ1IQxLaRHXjOf9g

Like I have said, you think I was happy with putting those things up and no one seeming to care about it? Some people kept asking me when are we supposed to do what. People were late (everyone was late at least once). No one kept time and brought up what we had agreed to do. Often, no one brought up the hymns/prayer until it was too late. I just assumed people were content with the bible questions running over and causing us to skip those. People forgot the questions that they added to the list. After a while, I stopped bringing it up and people stopped bringing it up. So I should be pissed right? Does that give me the right to yell at everyone?

Thing is, we were waiting for Dan to come back and talk. Now he's here and feeling a bit more encouraged. Let's have those discussions about what we agreed to do and what we should do now instead of letting out our anger.

A said I should add something regarding Sabbath after speaking with D and S.

Well, I think I said enough from my understanding of the Bible. I guess it is D's turn to share the proper remembrance - since he has been defending this for a few Sundays now.

But before I go, I'd like to share a few verses from the Bible some of the things the 1st century believers did when they met, not necessarily on Sabbaths.

Acts 2:46-47 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

1 Corinthians 14:26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.

Ephesians 5: 18-20 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
